Winners Announced for Global Mobile Awards

globalmobile2013.gifThis week in Barcelona the GSMA announced the winners of the 2013 Global Mobile Awards.

The Global Mobile Awards are given annually, and offer organisations across the global mobile eco-system the opportunity to showcase the latest and best mobile products, apps, services and initiatives to the world.

This year saw a record number of entries to the competition. Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA said “Our judging panel has assessed well over 600 entries and nominations for the 37 awards, the largest ever number of honours to be presented at the Global Mobile Awards.”

The judging took place over December and January, with a panel made up of independent judges comprising leading industry and subject matter experts, analysts, journalists and academics and in some cases mobile operator representatives. MobiAD’s Jim Cook participated as one of the judges for the Best Overall App category.

Best Advertising or Marketing on Mobile

This year’s shortlisted nominees for the mobile advertising category included:

• Cheil Worlwide and Mobile 5 for Samsung: Take Part 2012
• Hipcricket for McDonald’s MORNING PAPER
• netCORE for Hindustan Unilever’s Active Wheel Rural Mobile Campaign
• McCann Worldgroup (Hong Kong) for Coca-Cola Chok! Chok! Chok!
• Movement for Coca Cola’s Move to the Beat 2012 Campaign

The winner in this category was McCann Worldgroup (Hong Kong) for Chok! Chok! Chok!

“With less and less people tuning in to traditional TV, Coca-Cola Hong Kong set out to transform the traditional TV experience in the new digital age with its highly successful summer promotional campaign “Chok! Chok! Chok!”

“Chok!”, meaning rapid motion, is the latest slang word used by Hong Kong teens. Riding on the popularity of this new slang word, we created a smartphone app to let teens catch tumbling bottle caps straight from the TV screen to win instant prizes, successfully turning a traditional TVC into Hong Kong and Asia’s first ever interactive gaming promotion.”
