UK online retailer ASOS is extending its mobile commerce strategy with the launch of its first mobile commerce app for iOS (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch).
This comes after the company recorded an 800% year-on-year growth in mobile revenues.
“Mobile is one of the fastest-growing industries, and we always want to be a step ahead,” said James Hart, ecommerce director at ASOS, London.
Earlier this year, ASOS said that it was generating over £1 million in revenue a month from sales through its mobile site. Mobile represents roughly represents 10% of traffic coming to its digital properties and will also include a tablet magazine.
The app, powered by mobile solution Usablenet, will allow users to search through 3 product categories (clothing, accessories or by designer), over 40,000 product lines ad buy their items directly from their mobile device.
The app also allows consumers to view products from multiple angles and will offer the same promotions as the online site offers. Another cleaver feature is the inclusion of a GPS feature that allows users to find there nearest drop-off locations for returns.
According to Mr Hart, the initial focus on iOS is because “On Apple devices, we believe the best experience at the moment is via native apps” but that they are planning to offer apps on other platform in the near future.
Earlier this year, the ASOS mobile site was rated by eDigital Research‘s latest mCommerce Benchmark study. For more about this study and what makes the ASOS mobile site so good, visit this review.
